We Transform Agriculture Across Africa
The Knowledge Centre for Organic Agriculture and Agroecology in Africa (KCOA) is a country-led partnership working to promote sustainable farming practices across the continent. By addressing the unique challenges faced by African farmers, we aim to create resilient food systems, improve livelihoods, and protect ecological resources. Our work is made possible through a collaborative network of five regional Knowledge Hubs, each driving innovation, capacity-building, and knowledge-sharing in their respective regions.

Knowledge Centre for Organic Agriculture and Agroecology in Africa (KCOA) is a so-called Global Project. Commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), it coordinates efforts across Africa to:
- Improve access to reliable, practical knowledge on organic agriculture and agroecology.
- Build technical and professional capacities for stakeholders.
- Foster networks that connect farmers, practitioners, and policymakers.
- Support advocacy for sustainable farming systems.
From 2019 to 2026, this global partnership is laying the foundation for long-term sustainability and growth in organic agriculture.
Our Regional Knowledge Hubs
To make a lasting impact, KCOA collaborates with local partners who manage five regional Knowledge Hubs, ensuring that solutions are tailored to the specific needs of each region in Africa:
Led by Enda Pronat and its partners, KHWA focuses on enhancing the value of traditional agroecological knowledge and promoting participatory certification systems. Key activities include knowledge collection, validation, and dissemination to local communities, along with innovative events like organic weekends and policy dialogues.
KHNA works across Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco to empower smallholders, women, and youth. Using a cascade training system, KHNA facilitates practical knowledge-sharing and develops demonstration plots to showcase effective organic and agroecological practices.
KHSA partners with organizations in Zambia, Malawi, Namibia and South Africa to create tailored training materials, strengthen local networks, and promote participatory guarantee systems. Projects include engaging with media, academia and lead farmers to expand organic farming practices.
Coordinated by Biovision Africa Trust and PELUM Uganda, KHEA integrates ecological organic agriculture into national agricultural systems. Activities include validating knowledge, disseminating best practices, and fostering market development and networking.
KHCA, launched in 2022, focuses on Cameroon and is implemented by local NGOs. The hub emphasizes knowledge-sharing, training and creating a platform for organic farming innovations.
Our Mission in Action
Together, the KCOA project and its Knowledge Hubs are building a future where organic agriculture is more accessible, practical, and sustainable for farmers across Africa. By creating strong networks and sharing actionable knowledge, we empower communities to make lasting, positive changes in their agricultural systems.
