By Paul Mwaniki, KCOA Farmer (Kenya)

Paul is a dedicated and passionate organic farmer from Mukameni village in Yatta Sub- County, Machakos County. He hasmade significant strides in sustainable agriculture.

The organic farming journey took a pivotal turn when he attended a five-day multiplier training organized and facilitated by PELUM-Kenya. This comprehensive training covered various aspects of organic farming, including integrated pest management, marketing, animal husbandry among others. The knowledge and skills acquired during this training have been instrumental in enhancing farming practices and overall productivity.

One of the key areas of improvement was in integrated pest management. By adopting eco-friendly pest control methods, reducing the use of harmful chemicals, leading to healthier crops and a more sustainable farming ecosystem. The training also equipped him with marketing strategies, allowing him to effectively promote and sell organic produce. As a result, he has seen an increase in demand for my products, both locally and in wider markets.

In addition to crop production, the training also provided him with valuable insights into animal husbandry. This knowledge has enabled him to integrate livestock into his farming system, further enhancing the sustainability and profitability of his farm.
