Practical Resources for Organic Farming & Agroecology

Across Africa, farmers, extension workers, researchers, policymakers, and development practitioners are seeking practical, evidence‑based information to improve agricultural practices sustainably. That’s where the Knowledge Products (KPs) of the KCOA‑KHEA Project come in.

What is a Knowledge Product (KP)?

A Knowledge Product (KP) is a practical, evidence‑based resource developed to capture, package, and share useful information on Organic Farming and Agroecology. KPs are designed not just to inform, but to enable action, helping users apply knowledge, replicate best practices, and scale innovations across communities, a view shared by major international organisations.

For example, in development practice, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) treats a knowledge product as an output that helps turn insights and evidence into accessible resources that improve understanding, decisions, and outcomes.

Although the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) does not offer a concise definition of “knowledge product” in official glossaries, its knowledge‑sharing frameworks make clear that organising, packaging, and making agricultural data and guidance accessible is central to their work. Platforms such as AGRIS, AGROVOC, and KnowledgeLab exemplify how FAO treats structured knowledge outputs as practical products for users worldwide.

Types of Knowledge Products may include:

Technical guides & manuals;TRANSLATED_COMBINED_CHECKED

Policy brief; Policy-Brief-FMSS.pdf

In short, a KP turns knowledge into practical tools for learning, adoption, and impact.

Objectives of Developing Knowledge Products

Developing Knowledge Products under the KCOA‑KHEA Project is guided by clear objectives:

  1. Promote knowledge sharing: Facilitate exchange of practical and research‑based information across communities and stakeholders.
  2. Support learning and capacity building: Equip farmers, extension workers, and development practitioners with skills and knowledge they can apply immediately.
  3. Encourage adoption of sustainable practices: Translate evidence‑based information into real‑world action to improve agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability.
  4. Document and scale local innovations: Capture successful approaches from different African contexts and make them accessible for wider adoption.
  5. Inform policy and decision‑making: Provide concise, actionable evidence for policymakers and institutions.
  6. Strengthen farmer resilience: Share tools that help farmers adapt to climate change, improve soil health, and manage pests naturally.
